Born in the village of Gorodishchi, Moscow Gubernia, in 1906.

Between 1927 and 1930 attended the painting department of the Higher Technical Institute (VKHUTEIN), majoring in monumental art.

In 1931 graduated from the Leningrad Academy of Fine Arts.

In 1935-1941 worked at the monumental art workshop of the Soviet Academy of Architecture.

In 1958 joined the Moscow branch of the Artists Union (MOSKh).

Did fresco paintings, mosaics, temperas and watercolours.

Died in Moscow in 1969.

In 1967, 1990, 1999 and 2006 Chernyshev's solo shows were staged in Moscow.

Between 1999 and 2004 Chernyshev's solo shows were held in Yaroslavl, Vologda, Tver, Tula, Istra, Penza and some other towns.

In 2007 the Tretyakov Gallery held an exhibition of Chernyshev's works.
