Born in Iaşi (Romania) in 1908.

Together with his parents he moved to Paris in 1912.

Studied law and philosophy at the Lycée Charlemagne.

From the late 1930s he attended the Contemporary Academy of Fernand Leger.

In 1940 he met Pierre Bonnard, who strongly influenced Ackerman’s work.

During WWII he was interned to a concentration camp, where he stayed until 1944.

In 1947 Ackerman held his first solo show.

In 1950 the Society of Friends of the Museum of Modern Art awarded the Charles Paqueman Prize to Ackerman.

In 1970 the musée Galliera of Paris held Ackerman’s retrospective.

Died in Paris in 1981.
